Broadcom Accuses Atheros Of Degrading Adjacent Networks

There’s certainly no love lost between Broadcom and Atheros. The two chip makers battling it out in the WiFi chip making business have made pointed statements directed at each other for quite some time. Now they’re getting into accusation territory. Glenn Fleishman and Nancy Gohring have broken a story over at PCWorld that Broadcom is saying Atheros’ well publicized Super G feature set degrades the quality of neighboring networks. Atheros denies the charges, and Broadcom says they’ll release more details next week at Comdex – including their methodology. As Glenn writes separately over at WiFi Networking News, no matter what happens this is going to impact one of the two companies. If it’s true, then Atheros is going to look bad and have to do something quick to fix the situation. If it’s proven false, Broadcom is going to look bad for having made false accusations. Should be interesting to see how this one plays out.
