UN Wants Worldwide WiFi

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan apparently told a conference yesterday that WiFi could be a huge boost for developing countries. Perhaps it’s just nitpicking, but why single out WiFi specifically? Shouldn’t the argument be that open wireless networks could help developing countries? My guess, actually, is that Annan just meant “wireless networks”, but was using WiFi as a generic term to mean that.
