Who Will Provide Content For Your Phone?

Well, here is yet another article worrying about who is going to provide the data content for mobile phones to make them worthwhile for people to buy. Again, I think this is the wrong attitude. Too many companies are looking at higher end mobile phone networks as the equivalent of broadcast systems, where buyers will only buy it if they have some sort of worthwhile content to access. In most cases, people can access worthwhile content online at a computer. They’re looking to mobile phones for what they’ve always looked to mobile phones for: as a communications device. While there is some fit for broadcast-style data, it’s not going to make anyone rush out to buy a phone. It’s the ability to communicate that makes a mobile phone worthwhile – and therefore, the answer to “who will supply content for a mobile phone” is probably the end user.
