Screen Too Small On Your PDA? Get Two
from the ahhh,-much-better dept
There’s always been a problem in PDA and smartphone design. You want the screen to be as big as possible to make it more useful, but you want the device to be as small as possible so that people like it and feel comfortable carrying it around. This leads to inevitable tradeoffs, and IBM thinks they may have a solution: dual screens. The description in the article is not the greatest, and a picture would really help. However, it sounds like the device has the ability to flip out a second half of a screen – so that when you need more screen real estate, you can suddenly have it, without impacting the carrying size of the device. I’m guessing it must work in a similar way to the Sierra Wireless smartphone keyboard, but could be totally off-base.

I’d think standalone screen would be more usefull. just hook it via USB or something and u’ve got any size u want.

I’ve been thinking of that for a while. It’s basicly just like the tricorder in Star Trek.
