Hastert May Force House To Vote On Senate Anti-Spam Bill

from the that-was-quick dept

Last week the Senate made a lot of news for pushing through a version of an anti-spam bill. The next stage was to get the House to approve their own version – but infighting between different version has kept the process bogged down. Now, House Speaker Dennis Hastert has decided he hates spam so much that he’s not waiting for the rest of his colleagues. He just wants to take the Senate’s version of the CAN SPAM bill and put it to a full House vote – where most Congressional Representatives would hate to have their name associated with a “no” vote on an anti-spam bill. While I can understand the desire to get something done about spam, I’m still afraid that in “pushing things through”, the bill will miss many important issues and end up causing more problems than it solves.
