Amazon Stock Pays Off Laid Off Workers

from the not-bad dept

Plenty of people mocked this story when it first came out, but a few years ago, when Amazon laid off a bunch of workers, they put some stock in a “trust fund” for those workers and let it vest over two and a half years. Now that stock has vested, and Amazon’s stock has shot up, so those laid off workers are suddenly receiving checks from Amazon for money they probably never thought they would see. Some of those receiving the checks point out that it does seem like a kind gesture from a company that took their job away. Of course, if the stock hadn’t bounced back, I’m sure the laid off employees would still be trashing the idea.
