Mobile Phone Sales Rolling Along

It really wasn’t that long ago that people were predicting that the mobile phone handset market was maturing and it was going to be increasingly difficult to convince people to buy new phones. That didn’t last long. Handset makers are reporting booming sales as people start to upgrade their phones to fancy phones with modern features like cameras, and as new markets (such as China) open up. In the US, many handset makers are hoping that next months number portability situation will also give them a boost as people will be forced to buy new phones to work on their new carrier of choice. Update: Of course, with every upturn, there’s a downside. Some analysts are worried that part of this growth in sales is due to rapidly dropping prices of handsets – meaning that profit margins are getting squeezed.
