Antispam Program Used For Spamming?

from the can't-trust-anyone-any-more dept

There have been quite a few stories of anti-spam companies that use spam to get the message out about their anti-spam product (which, of course, should make it clear that it’s a company not to be trusted). However, with the rapidly growing number of anti-spam tools out there, it was only a matter of time until a bunch of spammers decided to write their own “antispam” tool, convince people to download it, and then use it to set up open proxies on the machines where it was installed – so it can be used to send out spam. Yet another situation where the trust becomes an issue online. With people downloading software all the time, many people have no idea what the products are actually designed to do.
