Those Mysterious WiMax Trials

The Register is reporting that trials of WiMax broadband wireless equipment are coming “thick and fast” but give absolutely no details. Usually when you report such things you at least name some names and places. Instead, the article goes off on a tangent with examples of failed wireless broadband attempts in the past. It is, of course, important to learn from past mistakes, but that’s not what the article appears to be doing. At least from my read, it’s trying to condemn WiMax via guilt by association. The article basically reads, “there are some WiMax trials somewhere, but all wireless broadband fails”. It’s true that there are still plenty of questions surrounding WiMax and overhyping it or jumping completely on the bandwagon might be a bit premature. However, condemning nameless trials because completely unrelated technology failed seems a bit odd.
