Finding A Company's Website Isn't Always So Easy
from the so-says-a-company-that-wants-to-help dept
Well, you have to wonder about any study done by a company that is clearly positioned to benefit from the results they found. A company that is trying to convince people to buy keyword names from it, is telling the world about their new study that says many companies have domain names that are difficult to find. They say (which should surprise no one) that most people just try CompanyName.com. Of course with hyphens and different TLDs it doesn’t always work. They also found most people are willing to try about three times to find the right website – and then they move on. Of course, how did I find the webpage of the company that did the study? I just popped it into my search toolbar and let Google take me there. That seems much easier – and I didn’t have to pay this company for one of their “keywords”.

CommonName.com. This sounds just like RealNames. Do you wonder whatever happened to them and their great idea? If so, just look here:

CNN
One of the most popular searches on google in times of big news stories is for ‘CNN’. ‘Cause cnn.com is too hard to figure out on your own….
Re: CNN
Actually, sometimes I just use the Google toolbar, since it automatically pops up the page in a new window. Plus, if you type in the full name (including the .com) Google just takes you straight to the page. So, it’s faster for me to type “cnn.com” into the google toolbar of the browser I have open, then popping open a new browser window and typing cnn.com
