Minor League Baseball Goes WiFi

We’ve had a few stories about baseball teams testing out wireless food ordering via mobile phone systems – but Glenn Fleishman has turned up the fact that the Sacramento Rivercats (the Oakland A’s AAA team) will soon be offering WiFi throughout their ballpark. You’ll be able to order food from your WiFi-enabled laptop or PDA as well as just hang out and surf the web. I imagine this is a dream come true for some baseball stat-heads (er, ok, myself included). Baseball is also notorious for letting minor league teams experiment with promotions, and if successful, moving them up to the majors – so hopefully we can look forward to Major League WiFi in the near future. Glenn also points out that (smartly) the team is using WiFi not only for customers, but internal use as well – such as adjusting the lighting and cooling in the stadium.
