FTC Says New Spam Laws Look More Harmful Than Helpful

It appears the message might be getting through. While many people have been pointing out that most of the various anti-spam laws proposed by Congress would likely do more harm than good, it appeared that no one in the government was taking any notice of that fact. Now, the FTC’s chief has come out trashing most of the bills, and pointing out (correctly) that they will make the problem worse, not better. In fact, he complains that some of the proposed laws would make it nearly impossible for the FTC to prosecute spammers.
