Reporting Crimes By Text Message

While there have been stories of crimes being reporting via text or picture message over mobile phones, this is the first story I’ve heard of where police specifically set up a system to receive information about crimes via text message. In this case, it was for a large rock festival where upwards of 70,000 attendees were expected. Police set up a phone number where anyone could send an “anonymous” text message alerting the police to a crime being committed. Of course, you have to wonder just how anonymous it can be, since I’m sure the police are recording what phone the message came from.
