Nextel To Sue Over Push To Talk

Now that Verizon Wireless has announced official plans to launch their own push-to-talk solution, Nextel has decided to sue them for trademark infringement. Despite being the only ones to offer the technology for ten years, and the fact that “push-to-talk” was considered the common term for this type of feature for years and years, Nextel (knowing what was going on) somehow got away with trademarking the term two months ago. So, now they’re going to sue. Verizon is challenging the trademark and says it’s a common usage term. This seems like a silly legal version of thumbing your nose at someone.
