Wireless Network Provides Link In Battle To Control Wildfire

It’s certainly fire season here in California. However, the tools used to fight such wildfires are getting better – and now include wireless technologies. After lightening started a recent wildfire, it wasn’t just firefighters and firefighting equipment that was deployed – but also a high speed wireless connection set up by UC San Diego and San Diego State University. Within hours of it being requested, they’d set up a line-of-sight connection over 70 miles, to let those fighting the fire have better access to data, and a better ability to share data amongst themselves. Unfortunately, the only news on it so far is in press release form, so you might expect it to be a little hyped up. They also don’t provide much info on the actual technology (though, there is more info on the project’s website.
