UWB To Ace Out WiFi?
Sometimes I wonder why we even bother. Here is yet another story explaining how yet another technology is going to eat WiFi’s lunch. This one picks on UWB as the WiFi killer of choice. All of these things compare apples and oranges and make assumptions that aren’t particularly valid. For example, this one immediately points out that UWB is much faster than 802.11b – ignoring the fact that 802.11g (and a) systems are out there now which are already much faster than 802.11b. This should make people aware that, for all their wishing and hoping, the WiFi standard isn’t going to sit still either. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for UWB, and that it won’t be useful eventually, but to compare UWB at some random future point with WiFi today is pointless.
