Schumer Tells Sprint PCS To Stop Charging LNP Fee

We’ve discussed the wireless carriers’ decision to start charging extra to pay for the expected costs of “local number portability”, but now Senator Chuck Schumer from New York (who also was pushing a national “Cell Phone User Bill of Rights”) is taking Sprint PCS to task for their fees. He points out that, first of all, Sprint PCS has been a vocal opponent of LNP, but is now likely to profit off of it – by raising more than twice the amount of money they’ll actually need. He thinks it’s a pretty gutsy move to be charging for something that isn’t in place, and which they’re hoping will never be in place (though, it’s pretty clear that it’s going to be enforced).
