Beating E-Scammers At Their Own Game

from the scam-baiting dept

It’s the new online sport of the summer. There have been way too many articles written by reporters who have writer’s block and notice a 419/Nigerian email scam spam in their mailbox, and decide to write back. We’ve covered that story too often. However, doing so for your own fun and entertainment is apparently the online sport of the summer. There are sites that give you tips on better ways to bait the scammers, and how to have more fun with it. The reporter who writes about it says it makes dealing with spam so much more fun, because now he looks forward to getting such scam emails. I would suggest, if you’re having trouble coming up with your own original responses, that you just use this handy automated Nigerian scam responder.

Damn

Damn, I notice they also have an automated Nigeria scam email generator (in addition to their reply generator). I was planning on doing that! I have been saving the 419 emails I receive (an average of one a day), and I was going to put them through an automated statistical analysis to generate similar sounding letters. Oh well, someone beat me to it.
