Guilty Plea In Kinko's Keystroke Caper
from the identity-theft-everywhere dept
A scammer who installed hidden keystroke logging software throughout a variety of Kinko’s in Manhattan has now filed a guilty plea to the charges. He ran those programs for nearly two years, capturing all sorts of account information from various people using Kinko’s computers, and then sold that information online. He also did some identity theft work himself, opening up fraudulent accounts, and transferring money from his victim’s accounts to his own. The only reason he was caught was that he decided to use a remote PC controlling program to search out one user’s home PC… while the guy was sitting at the PC. So, it didn’t take long for them to track him down. Here’s the scary part, though. While he was out on bail, he was caught installing more spy software at another Kinko’s. You have to wonder about someone who gets caught committing the same exact crime he’s awaiting trial for.
