Verizon Completes Nationwide 1xRTT Coverage

Today Verizon Wireless flipped a switch to commercially launch their CDMA2000 1xRTT network in Colorado. Colorado is the last state in Verizon’s national network to receive the upgrade to 1xRTT, which provides data rates of 40 to 60kbps on average, or 144kbps peak. While the 1xRTT footprint is essentially complete, Verizon is also pushing the boundaries with a true 3G technology, CDMA2000 EV-DO in the early markets of DC and San Diego. New handsets will be required for customers to take advantage of each of these network upgrades.
