Microsoft's Second Assault On Smartphones

Business Week is running a good summary of Microsoft’s recent moves to become the wireless OS of choice. While many have pointed out that Microsoft has a reputation of being a bully, and it’s first attempt at smartphone operating systems received pretty bad reviews – this is all typical Microsoft. They continue to learn, and the continue to change, and they continue to build, until they find the system that you just can’t ignore. They’ve done it in operating systems, productivity software, PDA operating systems, and now they’re looking to do it with smartphones. Of course, since I still think PDAs and smartphones are rapidly merging into a single category, I don’t see this as that big of a stretch. How long will it be until Microsoft offers a single operating system for all such devices?
