Wi-Fi And 3G Together? Does Anyone Care?
One of these days the “WiFi vs 3G” stories are going stop. I really do believe that. But, apparently, it’s not happening any time soon. The latest one, though, at least does a good job laying out the differences between the two technologies and explaining why they’re likely to co-exist. The most important points, though, are made at the end by In-Stat/MDR analyst Alan Nogee: “Prices for 3G and public Wi-Fi access will both drop, and both will have their place… just like how many people have both a cordless phone and a cellular phone. Customers don’t really care about which technology is used, but they care about cost and they care about speed, and this could help carriers with both technologies.” It’s about time that folks in the analyst community realized that. People don’t care. They just want their wireless technology to work.
