Casting The Wireless Sensor Net
from the it's-coming... dept
MIT’s Tech Review has a long article looking at the current state of wireless sensor networks, saying that it’s very much like the state of the internet in the 70s. There’s some work being done, but there are many different standards and it’s mostly being done in small clumps as opposed to all being connected together. People are saying that some sort of official wireless sensor standard needs to emerge – even if accidentally – before the technology takes off. Another big concern seems to be how to deal with the information overload from such sensors. The important thing is not to get raw data, but to answer specific questions. Thus, some people are working on a “Google for the physical world” that will make sense of sensor data.
