CIOs Still Concerned by Wireless Standards, Security
It’s the CIO’s job to be concerned about these things, but I wonder how many of them are being a bit too paranoid. For years we’ve been hearing how companies aren’t investing in wireless technology because they’re afraid of security problems and because the standards aren’t set. The fact is, these days, you can get around (or plan for) most of these issues and the benefits of having wireless connectivity seems to far outweigh the risks. Yet, CIOs keep on talking about how they’re not ready for wireless yet for those same reasons. Of course, I’d point out that their employees are ready for it. By not having the company provide it, where they can carefully check for security issues, many of their employees are forging ahead with their own ad hoc wireless solutions, where they often have no clue about the security implications.
