Courts May Crack Down On Mobiles
Australia is quickly becoming a no-camera-phone-zone. We just had an article about how the YMCA in Australia was banning mobile phones in their locker rooms, and now the Supreme Court in Victoria along with the various county courts are looking to ban camera phones within their walls to “safeguard the identities of key witnesses”. This is going to be an interesting trend to follow, as it’s certainly an “unintended consequence” of camera phones. So, do mobile phones with cameras become less valuable when you can no longer use them in many places that a non-camera mobile phone can be used? Of course, in this case, since it’s difficult to determine whether or not a mobile phone has a camera or not, it sounds like they’re going to take away all mobile phones from folks within the courts. That seems a bit extreme.
