Time To Pay Attention To Style

Technology improvements and feature enhancements for mobile phones and other wireless gadgets are nice, but they’re going to drive buying decisions less and less as many of the “must have” features get standardized. Once you’ve hit a commodity product, the way to increase sales (and margins) is to somehow change the value proposition – even if it’s perceived value. The best way to do that, often, is to start looking at aesthetics. Here’s an interesting article pointing out that device makers are going to need to pay a lot more attention to device style going forward in order to sell more product. Instead of looking for what additional feature is going to sell well, the writer suggests that device makers pay a little more attention to what sort of look and feel are going to become the next fad.
