Napster Relaunch May Be Far Off
from the does-anyone-really-care? dept
With all the rumors about Apple buying the Napster name, someone asked a very valid question as to whether or not the Napster name still means anything? Is it really going to attract users any more? After all, it’s been completely dead for quite some time. If the value of the name decreases over time, then it’s only going to keep on dropping as Roxio is saying it may be many months before they get around to relaunching Napster. I’m sure the name still has some value, at least in attracting attention. However, I don’t think it’s a value that goes very far. If the service is terrible, it won’t matter what it’s called.

Yeah, KaZaa seems to be the most popular right now. Maybe Napster still resonants with the over-40 crowd who only learn about this stuff when NBC gets around to putting it on TV…
