Possibilities Limitless For Thinking Robots
from the watch-them-grow-up dept
Seems to be an increasingly popular topic, but here’s a story about some more researchers working on artificially intelligent robots that are supposed to learn as they “grow up”. For example, the robots are being taught how to walk down halls and turn the corner without bumping into walls. It takes a few tries, but once they learn, they move onto more complicated tasks. Of course, in all the similar stories I’ve heard on this topic, these robots never actually seem to get very far beyond such basic tasks. It seems like, at this point, the learning curve is pretty slow.

Pet toys?
Are we reasonably close to making a robot that can hide under a couch or fight back against the family cat? That’ll do wonders for obese pets.

What a load of nonsense. This is a typical “in n years time” prediction that the AI community has been making for the latest 40 years.
