For Teens In Maine, Hands On Wheel, Not On Cell

Just last week we had an article about how the National Transportation Safety Board was recommending that all states start implementing laws that would ban the use of mobile phones for new drivers. It appears that Maine is wasting no time. This fall, a new state law there will require all new drivers not to use mobile phones while driving for the first six months when they have a license. It will be interesting to see if this gets kids into the habit of not using their mobile phones, or if it just puts off the inevitable. Some say this won’t actually do much at all, since it will be nearly impossible for police to identify “new drivers” anyway. If anything, it will just increase the punishment after some other illegal act occurs.
