EMI Sues Bertelsmann Over Napster Investment

from the hey,-look-at-the-bandwagon-go-by dept

No big surprise here, but EMI is now copying Universal and are

suing Bertelsmann over their investment in Napster. Once again, this is a sore loser move by the music industry. Since the industry has a severe case of “lawyers-for-brains” they’re looking for anyone they can possibly sue about anything, trying to kick up such a legal dust storm that it scares others away from having anything to do with offering file sharing products – no matter how useful (or legal) they might be. I still think they’re going to have some trouble proving how an investor has the legal liability for the actions of the company – but if that comes to pass, it could put a huge chill on the rest of the investment community.
