PeopleSoft To Acquire J.D. Edwards

from the consolidation-time dept

As times continue to be tough in the enterprise software market, it’s a bit surprising that there haven’t been more “big” merger deals. There have been plenty of smaller ones, merging many of the independent players out of business, but major consolidation hasn’t taken place. That may be changing, though, as PeopleSoft is buying J.D. Edwards, to create the second largest enterprise software company (after SAP). For now, they plan to operate J.D. Edwards as a subsidiary, and will keep all its product lines, saying that the combined offerings let them cover a much wider market. Over time, though, the product lines are likely to merge.
