Google News Goes Local

from the the-world-shrinks? dept

Google News has apparently launched regional versions in a few different countries – though the news mostly seems to be appearing in those local countries. Thus, you see a story from Australia about Google News in Australia, a story in the UK about Google News UK and a story in Canada about Google News Canada. In some ways, this makes sense – especially for people trying to keep up on their local national news. However, part of the point of the internet was that it made news from all over the world available anywhere. Maybe this is where they’re headed, but I’d rather see an overall news search engine, that would then let you drill down by local areas – rather than having to start at a specific nationality and focus only on those results.
