Do We Want Video On Our Mobile Phones?

Over at the San Jose Mercury News they’re the new mobile phone offering from RealNetworks to let you stream audio and video to your mobile phone. Basically, they say, it’s kind of neat, but it’s an early adopter sort of thing. You’re not talking about high quality stuff here. Of course, as long as the carriers continue charging data by the byte, these types of services are unlikely to take off. There is one interesting suggestion in the article, which I had not heard before. The companies working on this type of thing see the mobile phone as the “new transistor radio”.
