Feds Defend Data-Mining Plans

from the we're-just-providing-the-technology... dept

DARPA defended their plans for the Total Information Awareness group by playing the “we’re just the tools” card. They point out that all they’re trying to do is build data mining tools. The TIA won’t keep any data whatsoever, but will off the tools to federal agencies like the FBI and the CIA. Funny how this argument is allowed for things like spying on citizens, but doesn’t get government support when the music industry blames file sharing programs for lost revenue.
