AT&T Wireless In Push For New Users

AT&T Wireless is getting into the prepaid wireless business, as they look to expand their customer base. Of course, the article says that this is really a cross between a prepaid system and a contract system. The only difference I can see is that AT&T Wireless will automatically sign you up for the next month when the latest month expires – or when you run out of minutes. So, this is really more of a month-to-month plan – where they expect people with poor credit to pay up front. Of course, this makes you wonder about the value of going after customers who are a credit risk. For a while the focus in the industry had been to sign up as many users as possible, but there had been a recent shift to looking for higher paying customers instead. Is this another shift, or is AT&T Wireless just looking to pick up some business at both ends?
