Phone Threat To Air Safety
from the really-there? dept
Earlier this week we had an article that got some attention about whether or not there really was any “risks” involved in using mobile phones on a plane. As if expecting such questions to be raised, the Civil Aviation Authority over in the UK has come out with a report talking about the dangers of using mobile phones on airplanes. They claim that in the past seven years there have been 35 mobile-phone related safety “incidents”. The specific indcidents include: “false warnings in the cockpit, distractions causing aircraft to stray accidentally onto runways or fly at the wrong altitude, interrupted radio communications and multiple safety systems malfunctions.”

heh
2 of the cited incidents were just because people were such JERKS that they just would not shut off their damn phones.
These are the types that need to be banned from movie theatres. Inconsiderate clods, indeed.
Not very convincing
Seems like the study is just an anecdotal survey of pilots. It doesn’t prove causation. Seems like any glitch in avionics COULD be blamed on somebody using a mobile phone, but could be a bug in the electronics or software that run the cockpit.
