Ultra-Wideband Standards Fragmentation

Carriers that feel threatened by disruptive technologies like Ultra-Wideband can take some comfort in this: According to Unstrung, the standardization process for UWB is at risk of being derailed before it leaves the station. Apparently there are currently 23 different specification proposals before the IEEE 802.15.3a Task Group working on the standard. It truly is the rare standard that makes it through this process without mortal delay, and still intact enough to have a positive impact. Successes? 802.11b and ethernet come to mind, but those are the exceptions. Godspeed UWB, Godspeed.
