WorldCom To Change Name To MCI
from the you-can-run,-but... dept
As was rumored a few months ago, Worldcom has decided to change their name to MCI in an attempt to ditch the “Worldcom stigma” of hearing the name in conjunction with “scandal” and “bankruptcy” for the past year or so. Somehow, I doubt such a simple name change will do much to change people’s impression of the company. I think most people will know that the two companies are the same, but they’ll still spend millions of dollars they really don’t have to “rebrand”.

Worldcom
Especially since Worldcom was known as MCI Worldcom for a very long time. We all know that MCI = Worldcom = MCI Worldcom, so this rebranding will be far less successful, in my opinion, then Valujet’s rebranding as AirTran Airlines (even though we all know it is still Valujet.)
What's in a name?
Yeah, that will work. Why don’t they change their name to Super Hyper Global Com or something?? *j/k*
I think the execs at WorldCom need to worry about getting the business on track and not debating endlessly about their “brand”. These days it’s the least of their worries.
