Top 40 Download Chart To Replace Singles Chart?

from the a-step-in-the-right-direction... dept

Music labels in the UK are having another one of their “digital download days”, hoping to convince people to sign up for legal music services. However, a more interesting product coming out of the day is the first official “Top 40 Download Chart” created by the company that charts best selling singles and albums in the UK. It sounds like the record labels are beginning to realize that the music people are downloading are a much better indicator of what’s really popular than what “singles” they’re buying (who buys singles any more, anyway?).
