An Analysis Of The RIAA's Complaint Against Students

from the good-read dept

John wrote in with a link to this very interesting and very well done

analysis of the RIAA’s claim against one of the students accused of running a file trading service and costing the music industry billions of dollars. The analisys carefully picks apart the RIAA’s claim, and points out where it’s misleading or wrong. On the whole, it appears they have a weak case. All the guy did was offer a service that searched out what files people were sharing on the local network. It didn’t do any of the actual sharing at all. It was basically just a search engine – and yet the RIAA claims he’s costing them billions of dollars. Hopefully, whoever the student has as a lawyer will get some ideas from this document.
