From Russia With TRIZ
from the invent-different dept
dsg writes in with an article about a design methodology called TRIZ. I’m going to have to leave really detailed comments up to people who know more about this. I’ve never heard of TRIZ and it set off a ton of alerts on my skepticism radar. As far as I can tell from the article TRIZ is basically “if you come to a problem in your design, figure out where the problem is, and think out-of-the-box to solve it.” That seems like a pretty basic ingredient in the invention process that anyone would need to go through, TRIZ or no TRIZ. However, assuming it’s a serious methodology, I would imagine this article just isn’t very good, and there’s a lot more to what TRIZ is all about then what they tell us here. Google seems to have lots of information about TRIZ, but without knowing more, I have no idea how valid a “science” it is.

Mike, I guess you don’t remember posting this about 3 yrs ago….

Whoa. That’s scary. I guess my brain is starting to overflow and dump the old bits. I used to be able to remember almost every one of the thousands and thousands of stories posted to Techdirt, and now some are starting to fade from memory.
