Small Businesses Using eBay As Their Exclusive Distribution Channel

from the keep-on-bidding dept

eBay can’t seem to help but get itself good press. Reporters looking for a filler story just need to look for a unique angle on what’s being sold on eBay. The latest is a story of a small furniture business

that uses eBay as their exclusive sales channel. It started out as an effort by a children’s furniture company to sell some of their products online. When that took off much faster than they expected, the company became afraid of channel conflict (they also sell to big stores like Wal-mart) and so they spun off the business. While the company is bringing in a few hundred thousand dollars in revenue each month, there are still some questions about how the company can grow. Of course, I’m not really sure that’s the point. There’s something to be said for building a nice stable business, and in this case, eBay has made it much easier for this company to get going.
