Mesh Less Cost of Wireless

We recently had an article where we were critical of the idea of mesh networks taking over the world. Now Wired News is running their own version of an article talking about wireless mesh networks, where they have an example of a town in the UK that has used the technology to offer high speed wireless access throughout the town. While I agree that in a case where there is some centralized planning, it could work – it’s tough to see how it catches on in the wider sense. People don’t necessarily see the benefit of buying more expensive equipment just to let their neighbors share their broadband access. If people can work together to create the systems, then it might work, but it’s not always so easy to get large groups of people to all cooperate that way.
