Usenet Server Glitch Angers AOL Customers

from the very-responsive dept

Apparently, for over a week, AOL users trying to post to Usenet never had their messages leave the AOL community. Was this part of the new AOL “walled garden” strategy to cut-off AOL users from the outside internet? There were conflicting reports, but now AOL says it was just a technical glitch. Unfortunately, that glitch went on for 9 or 10 days, with no official word from AOL acknowledging that they even knew there was a problem – despite many phone, email, and newsgroup posting complaints from customers.
