How The Microsoft $1.1 Billion Settlement Was Reached

from the ah,-the-lawyers dept

A puff piece from the Mercury News talks about the “behind the scenes” events that lead up to Microsoft settling in California. It seems that the law firm that handled the case doesn’t usually do class-action suits (though, they do focus on high tech intellectual property and anti-trust). However, it helped that they were the first ones out of the gate to file suit against Microsoft. They also were instrumental in stopping an earlier settlement (proposed two years ago) that would have just given money to schools instead of the consumers who had been ripped off.
