SonicBlue Moves Towards Offering Media Center

from the it's-all-about-the-convergence dept

Last Thursday TiVo announced their plans to let users view photos and play music from their computer on their TiVo devices. It didn’t take long for competitor Sonicblue to respond. Today they announced that their new DVD player will network with computers to display computer content as well. It’s not a stretch to think that the same functionality will be offered on ReplayTV devices in the near future. Unlike the TiVo announcement, there’s no indication if Sonicblue plans to charge a service fee to let you view your own content. Either way, though, it’s clear that the battle that is shaping up is over what box is going to control the entertainment space.
