RIAA Purposely Engineered Webcaster Split

from the sneaky-sneaky dept

With all the back and forth over creating a new agreement for small webcasters with the RIAA, there was a lot of discussion about how the various agreements always came from groups that claimed to “represent small webcasters”, but plenty of small webcasters had no idea who they were and certainly didn’t feel “represented”. Now, the Register quotes a number of interviews from those involved with the process that don’t speak highly of the RIAA. They suggest that the RIAA purposely tried to negotiate with splinter groups to try to make things more difficult. They also knew exactly what they wanted and wouldn’t give in at all in the negotiations.
