Bill To Jail Hackers For Life Back In Congress
from the again? dept
Back in July we posted an article about some “homeland security” legislation that would put certain hackers away for life. At the time, someone pointed out the disconnect between the fact that as the government is doing its best to put away hackers for life, they were (very gently) slapping the wrists of the corporate thieves who walked away with billions of dollars through securities fraud and other white collar crimes. The hackers jailed-for-life bill died in the Senate, but has now been put back into the Department of Homeland Security Bill in an attempt to sneak it by. Anyone think our government’s priorities are a bit out of touch with reality?

Doesn’t anyone see that the reason this is is because the “coprporate thieves” are usually the ones who: 1) Dump loads of cash into a politician’s pockets, 2) turn into politicians themselves when they aren’t caught.
Now why would the politicians put through a bill to hurt themselves? Sheesh…big money will NEVER be punished..as wrong as that is.
Hackers however, are nobodies and are in a position to annoy/sting those ppl. So they get put away for life…its a win/win for a politician…they don’t lose out on campaign funds and kickbacks and they win points with ignorant joe sixpacks who live in fear of evil computer hackers.
