Virtual Visits To Doctors Help Cut Costs

from the and-yet,-we-still-can't-email-our-doctors dept

A new study suggests that an online chat with your doctor may be just as effective as an in-person visit, while reducing the costs. Doctors, themselves, found online consultations to be “suitable” (as long as they got paid, of course). Personally, I would love to be able to do an online consultation if I needed to discuss something non-urgent and which didn’t require physical tests. My current healthcare provider has an “online nurse” program that will let you log into a chat session with a trained nurse, which I’ve used on occassion, but a full online doctor’s visit would be even better, and make it more likely that I would actually use my healthcare provider when problems arose rather than being lazy and hoping that I just get better.
