Band Can't Sell Own Music on EBay

from the good-job-protecting-musicians dept

It’s a little scary how easily some folks seem to assume that any recordable CD with music must be pirated. When an independent musician tried to sell CDs that he made at home of his own music on eBay, they cancelled his auctions, saying someone had complained that he was selling pirated music. He wondered who could have complained since the music was his in the first place – but eBay won’t tell him. It’s unclear if it was just random eBay employees who thought it was pirated music, or a more formal complaint from one of the music industry’s hired guns who hunt down pirated music. Either way, it probably makes the music “industry” happy. They don’t want independent musicians making any money anyway.
